ARTIST STATEMENT 2008
The “Kerfuffle” paintings represent a different visual format from my previous exhibitions. The new work interposes rebus-like constellations of small paintings which speak about longing, innuendo, cliches and strategies that take wrong directions.
More measured in appearance, the Kerfuffles’ project subjective values and self-subscribed metaphors, imagined events and fabricated conceits about life. Hermetic juxtapositions employing motifs, vignettes and miniature worlds that talk back with capricious irritability about a life lived.
Relying less on over the top opulence and color, the new paintings promote a more somber and distilled palette, while still employing collage interventions and strategies of the hand. |
